Visitation

Visitation has always been at the heart of the Mercy apostolate from the very beginning. Catherine McAuley’s Sisters were known as the ‘walking nuns’, bringing support to the suffering and destitute in Dublin in the 1830’s. In all the places where the Sisters live they continue this tradition of visitation, bringing hope and comfort to those who are sick, suffering or lonely at home or in hospitals or residential homes.

There are three things that the poor prize more highly than gold, though they cost the donor nothing; among these are the kind word, the gentle, compassionate look, and the patient hearing of their sorrows.’ (Catherine McAuley)
