Educating

Sisters are engaged in education at all levels and are active in helping children with learning difficulties. They are also involved in schools as members of Boards of Governors. On a broader educational level Sisters are engaged as facilitators for various groups.

Our Lady’s Grammar School

New Life Directions is an education initiative providing an opportunity for personal, psychological, spiritual and leadership development to groups, especially those experiencing social or educational disadvantage.


New Life Directions is a not-for-profit company co-ordinated by the Sisters of Mercy. Partnerships are developed with voluntary and statutory bodies and on-going training of tutors is an important element of the work.

Glóir

Glóir is an inter-congregational collaborative project.  It offers facilitation to groups/religious congregations/work teams. It offers training in facilitative leadership to members/leaders of religious congregations and to other voluntary and statutory groups.

Glóir staff work internationally and nationally. Much of the work is in Africa with religious congregations, particularly local diocesan congregations. Glóir is committed to work with the experience of participants in revelatory, collaborative and imaginative ways towards transformation.

Reading Recovery

The Sisters of Mercy introduced the Reading Recovery programme to the Republic of Ireland in the year 2000, a programme designed to help children obtain a proficient degree of literacy. Since its inception, a Sister from Co Down has been the National Co-Ordinator and oversees the development of centres and training teachers in the Programme.
