Sisters living at Glór na Mara, Bundoran, are involved in an exciting new ecological project. Through the medium of courses, publications, retreats and workshops, they offer participants ways of being educated towards a new world view, relating to earth from a contemplative stance. In this way, participants are enabled to journey into the awe and wonder of the unfolding story of the Universe and to embrace its sacredness.
In the community garden, participants have access to organic growing sites or allotments where they can grow a wide variety of vegetables.
One of the Sisters and a group of local people initiated Bundoran Transition Town in March 2011. Its aim is to involve the whole town community in planning towards a future without oil, by building community and environmental resilience in an upbeat way. It is about building up the local economy: eventually generating its own sustainable energy systems, local food, organic growing, small businesses and the development of local currencies to keep money in the local area.
Some of the activities/projects underway at Glór na Mara are: the public screening of inspirational awareness-raising films on a sustainable future; a wildflower walk with expert herbalist and author, Judith Hoad; an open day at Glór na Mara community garden and allotments and the sharing of vegetables; a geology walk – an appreciation of the local geology and a fracking information night; an energy drive – saving money and the environment at the same time, by reducing carbon footprint.
