Advocacy

We commit ourselves to raising awareness of the issues and struggles of our time – Direction Statement January 2007

Advocacy is the pursuit of influencing outcomes – including public-policy and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems – that directly affect people’s lives. Network – a Catholic Lobby group in Washington, D.C., CRS – Catholic Relief Services, CAST Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking and a Sister working at the United Nations help us identify issues to focus on, whether it be an issue of foreign aid, food safety, health care, restorative justice or trafficking. By collaborating with these groups, Sisters throughout the Region are enabled to send electronic alerts to their respective Congresspersons in a timely matter when something of importance needs attention. In this way, we influence public policy on behalf of the poor and voiceless.

Sr. Carmel Crimmins is a Sister of Mercy who lives and works in California, USA. She is very interested in the area of Advocacy.
