Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy

St. Catherine’s, Rosebank, Johannesburg

Two members of the community, who are now retired from school principalship, assist in the administration of their former schools – Rosebank Primary and McAuley House, Parktown West.

Another Sister is a Director of a shelter for homeless women in Berea, a disadvantaged area of Johannesburg. Berea can accommodate twenty five women per night and provides a necessary service and a safe environment. Skills training classes are also available during the day.

Another Sister motivates resources, both training and financial, to enable the marginalised of the community to engage in their own income generating activities. A great service to the people is the continued pastoral care and commitment to Basic Christian Communities.

Mayfair Convent School is situated on the south side of Johannesburg. The school caters for learners from Pre-School to Senior Primary School. In 1993 the Community of Sisters were withdrawn from Mayfair. Since then the School is managed and run by lay administration. This school is flourishing and continues to safeguard the Mercy ethos and spirit.
