Justice: Awareness/Action/Advocacy

We, Mercy Sisters in the Western Province, participate in global networking. We listen anew to the Gospel and endeavour to live so that:

Mercy and Justice shall meet
Justice and Peace shall embrace

We commit ourselves to the promotion and implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2015 – 2030.

Our particular areas of focus are:

Goal 13 – Climate Action
As an Eco-Province, we live and promote awareness of the interconnectedness of all life. We choose to live in right relationship with Earth in the light of the present Climate Crisis.

Goal 5 – Gender Equality
We support MECPATHS (Mercy Efforts for Child Protection Against Trafficking with the Hospitality Sector) thereby, actively promoting the dignity and welfare of women.

The care of Refugees and Asylum Seekers is a priority for us.

Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
We promote Economic Justice through ethical shopping. We recommend the purchase of Fair Trade products, which ensure a just wage and improved living standards in the Global South.

Goal 14 – Life Below Water
We engage with the campaign for the elimination of plastics and their harmful disposal.

Goal 15 – Life on Land
Through various projects, and individual endeavours, we promote harmony with Earth, our Common Home.

We listen to God’s Spirit active and present in our world, especially in the cry of the poor and marginalised; we attend to Gospel values; and we are led by our Congregational and Provincial Chapter statements. In this way we, Mercy Sisters in the Western Province, promote justice in our daily lives.

Sustained by contemplative living, we remain open to Mystery expressed in our evolving Universe.
