The Ministry of Faith Development/Catechesis is part of the whole, wider Church ministry and the Christian call to share the Good News; and so lead all to, “love tenderly, act justly and walk humbly with our God” (Micah, 6:8). In this we strive to share the charism of Mercy, promoting a spirit of compassion and care for all people and for our common home.
This Mission involves inspiring, resourcing and supporting parents/guardians in their own vocation as they accompany each child on their faith journey. This support is also extended to all who care for the young as they celebrate the Christian story in the Catholic tradition.
Supporting teachers in their work of handing on the faith in the classroom is a privilege. We recognise the need for involvement of Home, School and Parish in the faith formation of our young people, especially in Sacramental preparation.
In today’s Ireland the ministry of Faith Development brings us into contact with people of diverse cultures, faiths, religious traditions and none. Respect for difference, openness and inclusivity permeates all our involvement with others, as we are enriched by the wisdom of those, with whom we collaborate in this ministry.
As we face the reality for parishes into the future, we strive to empower and support adults to undertake Christian leadership roles at all levels in our faith communities. We support and encourage involvement in training programmes for lay leadership in the task of handing on the faith.
In this privileged ministry of Faith Development/Catechesis, we collaborate with all who see this important ministry as a priority in our modern world.
