Because of the diversity of ministry and location in the Province, a number of co-ordinating teams operate from the Provincial Office, Bishop Street, Cork. Sisters are involved at Provincial level in the following areas:
Archives & Heritage
Dora Lynch rsm, Provincial Archivist
Sr. Dora Lynch is the Provincial Archivist. The provincial archives functions in co-ordination with the congregational archives.
• It acquires and accesses the archives of closed houses, and other holdings which, eventually, are sent to the congregational archives.
• The annals and obituaries of each year are collected and sent to the congregational archives where they are copied to acid-free permanent paper and bound for posterity.
• Archival enquiries are processed.
• It assists in the co-ordination of the oral archives programme and the transcription of interviews from former years.
Communications
Communication is both one of the oldest and newest fields of study. It highlights how humans, both individually and institutionally, make sense of the world. It helps to clarify and deepen the meaning of our life, it crystallizes or indeed at times muddies our expressions of our relationship with God.
Our Congregational “online newsletter” Mercy Alive is issued by email on the first Friday every second month. The Southern Province Communication Team research and gather articles for the Southern Province section of the website www.sistersofmercy.ie and also contribute to Mercy Alive. The website and newsletter will only be as good as our contributions so, Sisters, keep your ears to the ground and your hearts alert for news items of interest to share among ourselves and with other Sisters of Mercy. Please forward your items to any of the Sisters on the Communications Team.
