“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Mt. 7: 7-8)
One day, I went to see a Loreto Sister to enquire more about religious life. I was feeling God calling me to religious life but I did not know where to start. The Sister was working as a Counsellor in our church. She listened to my story attentively and after asking me some few questions she told me she knew some Sisters who work with poor people. She directed me to Villa Maria in Nairobi, Kenya where the Sisters of Mercy have a convent.
At Villa Maria, I met the Vocation Promoter. I explained my mission to her. She invited me for a live-in and monthly prayer meetings.
Gradually, I came to learn more about Sisters of Mercy. I felt attracted to join them.
My biggest problem was how to communicate this to my family members, especially my mother who was not a Catholic and was very close to me. I prayed about it, gained courage and to my surprise when I told them they were delighted.
I joined the Sisters of Mercy in Kenya and I am happy to see the work started by Catherine McAuley going on.
