Mater Hospital, Nairobi

The Mater convent is situated in the grounds of the Mater Hospital which was opened in 1962 and will be celebrating its golden jubilee in 2012. The convent has moved location at least three times since the early days and the increasing expansion of the hospital has reduced the amount of accommodation available on the site. The community is home to four Sisters. One is retired from nursing and now the Assistant Librarian. One is the Medical Director of the hospital. Another is a Nurse in the accident and emergency department and the fourth member of the community administers the comprehensive care clinic where HIV AIDS patients are looked after in a holistic and community based approach.
