Ministry is not easy to define. It is more than the activity in which we are engaged. It is the expression of who we are as members of the one congregation and how we choose to meet the needs of today.
From setting up a school for a thousand pupils to organising a debate on climate change for concerned citizens to holding the hand of someone alone and afraid in a hospital bed, ministry is all this and more.
We might say that ministry is answering a need in any and every way by which the compassionate face of Christ is shown.
Inevitably through the years the focus of ministry has evolved, adapting to an ever-changing environment so that we respond to the needs and trends of the society in which we live.
For the Sisters of Mercy, ministry is the response to the call we heard.
