Remembrance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: For a World of Peace

It is 80 years this month since the world’s first atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima (August 6th) and Nagasaki (August 9th). As many as 200,000 people were killed instantly, many others died later from injuries and  radiation sickness. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the Nagasaki Peace Park memorialise these events.

Today there are over 12,000 nuclear weapons in existence on the planet.

In this 80th anniversary year,
Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe) are
once again inviting everyone to demonstrate support for a world without nuclear weapons and for
a world of peace, by creating a paper crane and sharing it online or in another appropriate way.

  • Visit the 80th anniversary website here
  • Learn how to fold a paper crane here

Continue with us in praying for peace.
