Friday 25 July marked the first celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent following a declaration last year by the UN General Assembly.
The day celebrates the immense contributions to socity made by woman and girl child of African descent, their strength, resilience, and untapped potential and recognises challenges faced globally due to the intersection of racial, gender, and socio-economic discrimination.
We welcome this day for recognising the accomplishments of African women and girls, for raising awareness of the challenges they face and for advocating for positive change.
