Good Friday Prayer

This is no ordinary day.
Today, Jesus is crucified for us.
By His Cross we are saved.
By His Cross, symbol of Love,
He brings the pain of the world
Into Resurrection Life.

The Cross – symbol of healing and transformation.
When we look at the Cross,
We see Jesus’ sacrifice
Of immense love.

I accompany Jesus on the Way of the Cross.
I stay with Him on His journey.
I feel quiet peace.
I surrender my life into His hands.
I keep vigil with Him.
I will pass one hour with Him.

It is cold on Calvary’s Hill.
For us Jesus died.
For us He will rise again.
Christ our life hangs on the Wood of the Cross,
For love of us.

Jesus, give us strength,
To carry our crosses.
We give you our struggles,
Our worries and anxieties.
I lay them down with Your Cross.
I too cry out,
“ O God, why have You forsaken me “ ?

Your heart was pierced and broken for us.
I will stand beneath Your Cross,
With Mary, John, and the women.
The weeping of Mary,
The shouting of the soldiers.
I know what You did for me, Lord,
And I am grateful.
Through the Cross of Christ,
We are welcoming the Mercy of God.
The Cross of Christ,
Leads us to a true encounter with God.

On the days when life seems demanding,
With all its burdens and concerns,
When we experience loss and loneliness,
When we feel the pain of the world,
And unite in compassion with the world’s
Suffering people,
When we are with others in their pain,
When we are weary and worn out,
When we face challenges
And our peace is disturbed,
Let us take up our Cross as Jesus did.
Keep us focussed on His Life,
Death and Resurrection.

Let us ponder with Mary,
Who watched her Son die.
Let us be faithful like John,
Who felt the blows rain down on Jesus.
Let us live abundant love,
Like Mary Magdalene’s love for Jesus.

Let all who feel abandoned,
Rejected, poor, homeless,
Find their place at the foot of the cross.
Let all who suffer injustice,
Find their place at the foot of the Cross.
Let all who suffer violence,
Find their place at the foot of the Cross.
May we all gather round the Cross today,
And be with Jesus.
