In this third week of Advent let us journey with Mary and Joseph. They were at home in Nazareth excited and preparing for the birth of their first child. We can imagine the house in Nazareth filled with joy, anticipation and probably a little apprehension, normal during pregnancy. Getting the cradle, the clothes, and all that is needed to care for a new baby. Suddenly a decree is issued by the ruler that all must go and be registered….what a shock, what a frightening thing. All plans suspended as they prepare to obey and leave their secure place for a journey into an unknown place at a time of advanced pregnancy. But, BUT, they had each other, and they had the promise of God’s Spirit to be with them. So they set out together…and we know the rest. Mary and Joseph invite us to set out together trusting in God’s promise to be with us, in good times and in bad.
