The Feast of Christ the King each year, marks the end of one liturgical year and the beginning of a new one. Where beginnings and endings meet there is a change of vision. This feast calls us to a change of mindset, at least. The new king changes definitions of power, control and governance. So you are a king then?
You served your people with your life
From your human heart the living water flowed into the world
You crossed boundaries of fear to reach the people left behind
You changed the system with the law of love
You wore the crown of thorns, revealing the prophetic change
You revealed the face of God’s mercy in the street, in the cornfield, at the synagogue
You calmed the storms in our lives with your presence in the boat
You listened to the wisdom of the birds and the teaching of the mustard seed
You opened the door of eternity to all people
You joined hands with every tribe and tongue, with every culture and nation
You forgave our cruelty and arrogance
You took the prisoner with you, to paradise
You shared your cosmic power with us in the Eucharist
You left us a living memory, in Bread and Wine, of the heart of God
You bestowed on all creation the legacy of forever love.
In 2024 as we await the joy and wonder of Advent, we ponder the King who incarnated into time and history, the Face of God.
Yes, you are a King
The King of our hearts
