American Independence Day – July 4th

God bless America, land that I love
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above

From the mountains to the prairies
To the oceans white with foam
God bless America, my home sweet home
(Kate Smith)

Priti Palit an accomplished edtech writer, reflects on this very special day for American people everywhere.

Independence Day in the United States is a special day, more than just a break from work. Families get together, and there’s a lot of excitement about the country’s history. This article explores the different things people do on Independence Day and why it’s important.

Independence Day Celebrations
On July 4th, Independence Day, families come together for picnics and barbecues. It’s a day to remember how much we love our country and the freedom we have… You’ll see the American flag everywhere, and when it gets dark, there are amazing firework shows in the sky. Big cities like New York and Washington, D.C., have parades and big events too.

Significance of American Independence Day
Independence Day is a day for all Americans to feel proud. Politicians come out to show they love their country and support its history. The Statue of Liberty, which is like a big symbol of freedom, becomes even more special. It’s a day to be thankful for the freedom our ancestors fought for.

The History of American Independence Day
A long time ago, in 1775, the people in the U.S. started fighting for their freedom from Britain. On July 2nd, 1776, Congress said, “We want to be free!” Two days later, on July 4ht, they wrote it all down in the Declaration of Independence. This day became a holiday in 1870 for some workers and in 1941 for others. It’s interesting that two important people, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, who helped make the Declaration, died on July 4th, 1826.

Remembering Native American History
Before the U.S. was the U.S., Native Americans were here with their own nations and governments. It’s important to think about their history too when we celebrate Independence Day.

Conclusion
Independence Day is not just about fireworks and food; it’s about being proud of where we come from and the freedom we enjoy. Whether we’re playing games with family or watching a parade, it’s a day to celebrate our country and the diverse stories that make it special.

Independence Day Prayer Lord

We stand today as our forefathers have stood before You in times gone by,

Celebrating our history and revelling in all the great things that our country has achieved.

On this day we rejoice in the favour You have graciously given us

We thank You for the blessings of liberty, for this generation and for the generations to come.

We thank You for our independence, peace and for all those who have bravely given their lives in the defence of freedom and justice.

We thank You that Your gracious and provident hand has given us so much…

Make us a generous people, A holy nation, A people set aside to love You forever,

For the sake of the land of the brave and free, And the peoples and nations of this world.

Our land is in need of You, Our people are in need of You, Our industry and business is in need of You.

May we look only to You This Independence Day, dependent on You.

Please come now by Your glorious Holy Spirit, Breathe new life into the sinews of this nation.

May justice flow like rivers, And righteousness like a never failing stream, Until the whole of our country is covered with Your glory, As the waters cover the sea.

We ask all this in the wonderful name of Jesus, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit. One God, now and for all eternity. Amen
