MECPATHS, in partnership with Maynooth University, are launching an accredited module on Human Trafficking for students undertaking a Masters in Social Science (Rights & Policy) through The Department of Applied Social Studies, Maynooth University. The module will explore definitions of Trafficking, push-pull factors associated with the crime, National and International Law structures, Money Laundering, Organised Crime, Victim Identification and explore Ireland’s own responses to a crime which affects 40.3 million people per year and generates $151 billion per annum.

MECPATHS’ work with Maynooth has progressed from 2019 when inputs were provided throughout existing Social Work modules. A clear identification of the need to have a Human Trafficking module was identified by both the staff team at The Department of Applied Social Studies and MECPATHS. The Module SP613 will be co-taught by Ann Mara, JP O’ Sullivan, Dr. Gloria Kirwin, Dr. Niamh Flanagan and retired Detective Inspector Paul Molloy, formerly of The Human Trafficking Investigation and Coordination Unit. The module will be made available to Masters of Social Work students following its launch on Friday May 29th 2020.
