Social Justice Day At Árd Scoil Na Tríonóide, Athy

May 14th, 2014 saw the gymnasium in the school transformed with projects and displays on Social Justice. The display was launched by local politician Jack Wall TD. Pupils from year group 1, 2, 3, and Transition Year displayed projects. The students spoke to their project as the Judges did their rounds. The display was open to the public and was very well advertised in the local newspaper.

A very large number of local people including parents attended to view the projects. Some topics addressed included Homelessness, Water pollution in the Third World, Sexism in the GAA, Cyber Bullying, Child Soldiers, and Slavery.

Judging was a very difficult task. Research, presentation and methods of display using modern technology were of a very high standard. Pupils were well informed and spoke to their projects with knowledge and conviction. This type of display and the research involved will create an awareness of social justice issues not just in the school community but in the local area. Sr. Concepta Foley with the assistance of many teachers and staff co-ordinated the event. This is an ideal way to educate young people in our schools and the local community on Justice Issues.
