Westmeath VEC’s Community Education Service nominated Sr. Teresa Sheerin to receive an award at their recent celebration of the VEC’s achievement since its establishment in 1930.

The VEC will cease to exist later this year when it amalgamates with Longford VEC and FAS to become Longford Westmeath Education and Training Board. The celebration took place in the Sheraton Hotel. Teresa was presented with a beautiful trophy and the following citation was read out at the ceremony:
Sr. Teresa moved to Athlone in 2002 and joined St. Peter’s Active Retirement Association the following year. Since that time she has been an active member of the group and has participated in classes in Arts, Crafts, Computers, Aromatherapy, Creative Writing, Yoga, Personal Development and Drama. She has given her time on a voluntary basis to organise activities for her fellow members and has received funding from various bodies for the Adult Education Classes, for Bealtaine celebrations and for Go-for-Life exercise programmes.
Sr. Teresa works closely with the local community in Battery Heights. She also encourages and supports the Local Women’s Group to organise community education classes. She is a great ambassador for Westmeath VEC’s Community Education Service as she is inclusive, tolerant, patient, persistent and actively encourages others to participate in classes with her. She is a great example of our motto that it is never too late to learn!
