Welcome To Retirement

When I walk into Nazareth House, everything comes together for me. From its main entrance to its exit door, Nazareth House exudes an atmosphere of welcome that each new resident immediately feels. “ We are here for you!  Welcome to your new home.”

Staffed by the Sisters of Nazareth, lay nurses and assistants, Nazareth House is a landmark close to freeways, an easy distance to the Catholic University of San Diego, to the airport and to the ocean – a stone’s throw from California’s first church – Mission San Diego.

Each resident is a special person, significant and unique. Care is taken to introduce the new person at several events and to accompany him/her those first days to ensure that he/she feels right at home. The staff always has time for whatever the need is.

Since my retirement from parish ministry, I have the privilege of volunteering a few hours a day four days a week at this special place. After participating at Mass, I meet and greet many of the residents who are on their way to the scheduled activity. I thoroughly enjoy helping residents to get to the many and varied activities which are offered each day – bingo, scrabble, music, reflection with the chaplain, rosary – just to name a few.

The Long Term Care Center is where those residents who need special care reside. As I visit each room, talk and pray with the residents, I can truly feel that God is in this place. I am always inspired by the faith and acceptance of residents who are nearing the end of life. Our own Sr. Mercedes Curran spent many years at Nazareth house and enjoyed every moment of her time there.

San Diego is specially blessed to have this senior residence open to those who are seeking a home away from home. Family and friends always feel welcomed. There’s a felt atmosphere that we are all interconnected, one big family.
