Journey From Jerusalem To Jericho

Journey from Jerusalem to Jericho – with a difference!
A Few Words of Appreciation

This is a request to convey my very sincere “Thanks” to an unknown Guardian Angel who came to my assistance in the form of a most gracious and generous Sister of Mercy from the West of Ireland.

Travelling from Croke Park after the Statio Orbis Mass, the final day of the International Eucharistic Congress, 17th June, 2012, I failed to get a taxi to Connolly Station to catch the return train to Waterford, which was scheduled to depart at 5.50 pm. At this stage time was running out, and here I was, at the side of the street, continuously looking from right to left in the hope of seeing a taxi, but alas no luck! Suddenly a nun appeared on the scene and she, willingly and graciously, became involved in my dilemma.

Shortly after, luck had it and a taxi drew up, which we hailed. This Good Samaritan got into the taxi with me and we drove to the Station, while she, unknown to me, had the fare ready to pay before we alighted from the taxi. On arrival at the entrance barrier in the station we were greeted with the news that the train had just left. We enquired about the next train to Waterford and were informed that it would leave from Heuston Station at 6.35 pm. At this stage there was nothing to do but to retrace our steps and head across the city in the direction of Heuston.

My reason for writing this saga is to thank this unknown Sister most sincerely for her graciousness, patience and wisdom in hailing another taxi and travelling with me to Heuston Station, ensuring I was comfortably settled on the train before she retraced her steps and returned to her own business. All she required of me when I thanked her and said “Good Bye” was to say a prayer for her. I now, once again say; “Go raibh mile maith agat, Sister”. I would really love to hear from you if you can recognise yourself in this incident.
