Winterveldt

Computer School

Winterveldt is large rural area of arid land where there is great poverty among the local people. HIV/AIDS is rampant here and any service that the Sisters can provide is welcomed and appreciated. The Sisters have set up a skills development centre to train local men and women in construction skills, baking, sewing, computers etc. The aim is to train people to be employed or to begin a small business and so become self reliant. The number of vulnerable children who need care continues to grow at an alarming rate.

A large nutrition centre encourages local women to grow food to feed their families. A group of local community workers visit the homes and assess the needs of individual families and those who are in great poverty are assisted weekly with food parcels.

Garden Project

Mercy Clinic, Winterveldt is an essential part of the project as health services in the area leave much to be desired. People using Mercy Clinic are assured of a first rate service. The clinic offers a holistic approach for patients suffering from TB and HIV/AIDS.

A Sister is dedicated to visiting many of the local prisons and liaises with the families of prisoners. She conducts classes in the prison for those who need to attain their matriculation and she engages in pastoral care for the prisoners.
