Lokori is situated in the Turkana district, south of Lodwar and several hours north of Chepareria. It is a quiet desert location although cattle rustling between the Turkana and Pokot tribes sometimes makes it an area of conflict. This is the most remote area of all our locations in Kenya. It is sixty six kilometers from the main road and that same primary road is in a very bad condition. Lokori is home to three Sisters. One works in the area of education where we set up a school for shepherd boys and girls who come to school in the evenings after the goats and camels are taken care of. They learn the basics of the three “R”s—reading writing and arithmetic. A skills training centre for women, managed by a Sister, helps sustainability. One Sister works in the primary school where many of the pupils are in their late teens. Another Sister manages the primary health centre and outreach to the far spread areas in the wider region.
