Mercy Music Project Wins Tshwane Talent Competition

The Dithaga Music Project was launched in 1997 when children attending Tsogo High School and Morekolodi Primary School were introduced to strings and clarinets. It also consisted of two choirs, and here the children learned to play the recorder and Orff instruments. They were also encouraged to compose their own music.

This year, the young musicians won the Tshwane Talent Competition that was organised by the University of South Africa Music Foundation. The orchestra faced stiff competition from entrants from Pretoria and Johannesburg. The highlight of their performance was a medley they had composed themselves. In the second competition, they were placed second and were awarded R2 000.
