Counselling/Pyschotherapy

“The Lord has filled me with his Spirit.
He has chosen me and sent me
To bring good news to the poor,
To heal the broken-hearted,
To announce release to captives
And freedom to those who are oppressed.” (Is 61.1)

These words from Isaiah quoted by Jesus at the beginning of his ministry describe our ministry of counselling/psychotherapy. To be a counsellor/psychotherapist is to be part of the healing ministry of Jesus. As Sisters involved in this ministry we seek to build safe, trusting, loving relationships with people who are broken-hearted, with those who feel captivated and oppressed under the weight of pain of low self esteem, anxiety, addictions, bereavement, abuse, depression, panic attacks, despair, relationship problems etc.

These safe loving relationships enable those who are suffering to begin to face the sources of their oppression and captivity. Experiencing acceptance, openness, warmth, empathy, respect, genuineness and understanding from the therapist they are enabled to enter the darkness of their pain and move and grow into the transformation of healing. All healing comes from God so the therapist is a channel of God’s healing Mercy to those who are oppressed, broken-hearted and captivated under the weight of pain and suffering.
