Addiction Counselling
Sisters of Mercy have been pioneering in developing a response to addiction in Ireland. A number who are trained in addiction counselling continue to offer their services voluntarily in addiction treatment centres that have been set up by members of the South Central Province.

Cuan Mhuire Addiction Services

Cuan Mhuire Addiction Services, which was established by a Sister of Mercy in Athy, celebrated 50 years in 2016. Close to 80,000 people have availed of the service. In addition to the original centre four more addiction centres have been developed as well as six transition houses and seven further aftercare facilities. For the past thirty years Cuan Mhuire has been an independent legal entity with its own governance structure.

A BA (honours) in Counselling with addiction, a four year course, is a collaborative programme between the Institute of Technology, Tralee and Cuan Mhuire/Galilee House of Studies, Athy.
